“present tense” is a six colour hand pulled screen print on canvas stretched over a plywood panel. With influences from the Dada and Pop movements, this limited edition examines post internet culture and the filtration of appropriated imagery. From fake news to memes, images and information are shared and transformed; becoming GIFs, Tumblr posts, Instagram posts and Facebook posts. The focal point of “present tense” is the vestige of an image stripped from its former glory as a GIF, overlaid with an image from a Wikipedia page about stars. Frozen in time as a screenshot it is further slowed down through the manual process of screen printing. Embedded with headline fonts lauding hedonistic values in a uniform graphic style, it has lost its frantic context but perhaps becomes more poetic in this new timeless form.
